Halfmoon residents find relief from heat at splash pad

HALFMOON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- As temperatures soar, families in Halfmoon are flocking to the local splash pad for some much-needed relief.

Children and parents alike are finding respite from the scorching temperatures by splashing around in the cool water. One little boy enjoying the park said, without the splash pad he probably couldn’t play outside. "It’s just going to be really too hot."

Gemma Rafferty, who had been at the splash pad for about 30 minutes, expressed her delight, saying, "it's really hot outside, so, like, the water's cold. And when it gets on you, it just feels so refreshing."

Gemma enthusiastically described her favorite activity, "There's like a little hole, and then that little star, it shoots out the water and goes in like the hole, and then you scoop the water out into the water, and then you can spray friends."

Parents appreciate having a safe and fun place to take their kids, especially with some schools closing early due to the heat. "At my school, a lot of the moms come here after they're done with school just so they can play," said one mother.

Leaha Deseve echoed this sentiment, highlighting the splash pad as a welcome alternative to the sweltering heat at home. "If it wasn't for this, I don't know what we'd be doing. Because air conditioning at our house is. And its cost so much, so I'd be able to come here to subscribe for free and let the kids run around is awesome. We'll be here probably every day."

As the summer progresses and temperatures continue to rise, community spaces like the Halfmoon Town Park splash pad serve as a place for fun and play, providing relief for families looking to beat the heat affordably and safely.
