North Adams man sentenced to life in prison for murder

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) -- According to the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office, Tyler Sumner, a North Adams man, was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Monday. This follows Sumner being found guilty of first-degree murder in May.

Sumner was accused and found guilty of murdering Stephanie Olivieri. The Berkshire County District Attorney's Office says her cause of death was due to bullet wounds sustained in the head.

According to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office, early on Sunday, August 25, 2019, Pittsfield Police responded to a 911 call regarding two masked men walking around 66 South John Street. While responding, police heard several gunshots near the road.

Authorities say several people testified that Sumner was targeting a person living in the area of the shooting and that Stephanie Olivieri was not believed to be the intended victim. Following the shooting, law enforcement investigated the matter, finding evidence leading to Sumner's conviction.
