In a Reddit post, user Yung_Mulann365 explained how an unexpected kitchen ingredient helped her hair growth.

However, her unusual beauty trick doesn’t come without a significant sacrifice.

“Please don’t judge me. I’m making this post to give you guys my results for using onion juice to promote thicker hair growth,” she wrote.

The poster explained that she was initially skeptical about using the vegetable to boost her hair growth.

“I normally don’t believe in DIY concoctions and even when I noticed that the onion juice thing was trending on YouTube I didn’t want to believe it.”

The Reddit user was influenced by a friend who praised onions for increasing the length and volume of her locks.

“How it helped to make her hair grow thicker, how it helped her hair density increase, and how it helped her hair become softer and fuller, which were things I really took notice [of].”

After researching the concept, the Redditor found evidence that onion juice “can help with hair loss, balding, and thinning hair.”

She broke down the process she uses to apply the ingredient to her hair.

“I apply onion juice in my hair for 30 minutes as a pre-shampoo treatment before I proceed to wash my hair two or three times to help get rid of the stinky onion smell,” she said.

The poster also adds rice water and oil to her hair when wet and applies regular leave-in conditioner to her scalp.

“I also massage my scalp every few days to help with blood flow and hair thickness,” she said.

The Redditor revealed that she had been using the item on her hair for five months and had noticed “some pretty great results.”

“What I have noticed was that my hair grew a lot thicker, I have a slight increase in density and thickness,” she said.

“I have less dandruff and dry patches on my scalp, my scalp isn’t itchy as much, my hair has gotten a lot darker, my hair has more shine to it, and my edges are not so thin anymore.”

The original poster also praised the vegetable’s ability to boost hair growth.

“I have noticed that my hair was able to retain length better a little bit past my shoulder, which is a big win to me because my hair has been shoulder length literally my whole life,” she said.

Medical News Today reported on the benefits of using onions for hair growth.

They explained that the minerals found in onions may be good for the hair.

It is suggested that using lemon juice or rose water may help offset the smell.

Reddit users shared their thoughts on the DIY hair growth hack in the comments section.

“My mom used onion juice for hair around thrice a week for 6 months and it really helped her a lot,” wrote one reader.

“I’m Indian and this is passed down from our elders, I use onion juice three times a week on my scalp. Leave it on for 30 minutes and then wash it out. It really helps with scalp psoriasis,” said another person.
