Joel Dommett reveals he’s landed huge ITV job after sitting in for Lorraine Kelly

JOEL Dommett has revealed he’s secured a major new ITV job after filling in for Lorraine Kelly.

The comedian, who has proven himself in a Saturday night prime-time gig as host of The Masked Singer, is considered a trust pair of hands by TV bosses.

And he will soon step-in as a guest host on This Morning, further boosting his live television credentials.

Speaking on comedian Russell Howard’s Wonderbox podcast, Joel, 38, reflected on his growing success on the box.

He said: “I’m in a lucky position that people aren’t ridiculously negative towards me. I feel like no one loves me, no one really hates me. I just sort of coast in the middle. I really love that place.

“I’m in an interesting place because I’m on so many different types of telly shows. People wouldn’t necessarily see me hosting Lorraine two weeks ago.

“It’s so fun, and I love doing these shows because no other comic would say yes to these things because it just doesn’t feel like a comic thing to do. But I think it’s so funny, interviewing Lulu and then talking about the coil. It’s different.”

The dad-of-one is relishing more live work and revealed he has some major shows in the pipeline.

He continued: “There’s not much live telly around now. Most of it’s daytime and a few Saturday night ones left. I genuinely am really excited to do more and I have more coming up. I’m doing This Morning. I’ve done it before, it’s two and a half hours and it goes from segment to segment.

“So one moment you’re cooking and then the next moment you’re talking to a doctor about something really serious, and then you go to the theatre and you’re interviewing Lily Allen. It’s like an absolute brain fart of madness.”

The funnyman believes his comedy day job gives him the edge over other presenters who might lack the humorous edge he brings to the table.

He said: “The interesting part is, because there is serious moments that everyone watching knows that you, as a presenter, have to be serious about. But you’ve got that look in your eye that it’s funny.

“And I think there’s some presenters that can’t do that. When you’re not a comic, you haven’t got that look in your eye, you know, you’re pretending that it’s serious.”

The TV star’s career continues to soar despite a major change in his home life.

Joel celebrated his first Father’s Day on Sunday having welcomed son Wilde in September with wife Hannah.

When he’s not on the box he can be found at home changing nappies and cleaning up sick.

“Being a dad is an absolute rollercoaster of emotions,” he told us.

“It really is like a rollercoaster in the way that when you’re going up, you’re so stressed, and then it gets to the top and then it goes over and you’re like ‘this is the most fun I’ve ever had in my entire life and I love it so much.’

“And then every day is like you get to the end of the ride, and you’re so knackered.

“It’s absolutely insane, and I honestly, really, really love it.”
