Four injured after crane knocks down wall at building site in Edinburgh

Four men have been rushed to hospital after a ‘wall collapse’ at a building site in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called to a ‘major’ incident at Rillbank Crescent with a special operations team this morning.

A crane is understood to have knocked over a wall at a construction site in the city’s Marchmont area.

Several police, Scottish Fire and Rescue and ambulance vehicles were pictured at the scene at around 11.50am.

The exact nature of the incident is unknown at this time however one concerned passer-by described it as a ‘major’ incident.

One local said: ‘I couldn’t see any smoke or signs of a fire as there was a lot of fire response units. Wasn’t very clear what was going on.’

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: ‘We received a call at 11:01 to attend an incident on Rillbank Crescent, Edinburgh.

‘Four ambulances, two special operations response teams (SORT), and a critical care paramedic were dispatched to the scene. Four patients were transported to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.’

Their condition is currently unknown.

Police Scotland added: ‘Around 11.05am on Wednesday, 19 June, 2023, we were called to a building site in the Rillbank Crescent area of Edinburgh. Emergency services are in attendance.’

The Scottish Fire and Rescue confirmed they were also in attendance.
