Police: One man critically injured in shooting as multiple people exchange gunfire in Bridgeport

One person was left in critical condition following a shooting in Bridgeport on Wednesday morning during an incident involving reports of multiple people shooting at each other.

One person is in critical condition after being shot in the head in Bridgeport on Wednesday morning during an incident involving reports of multiple people shooting at each other.

Police officers responded to the 1200 block of Iranistan Avenue just before 9:20 a.m. after receiving the report of an assault involving a firearm, according to the Bridgeport Police Department. Police said they also received reports that one person was shot as multiple people were exchanging gunfire.

Bridgeport Capt. Kevin Gilleran said responding officers found a 24-year-old Bridgeport man suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head.  He was taken in an ambulance to an area hospital, where he has been listed in critical condition.

“The victim’s family has been notified,” Gilleran said in a statement. “The department’s thoughts and prayers go out to the victim and his family.”

The Detective Bureau Homicide Squad responded to the scene and has taken charge of the investigation. The scene was secured and processed by Forensic Identification Unit detectives.

Several people at the scene were detained and interviewed by responding officers, according to police.

Police are still investigating the shooting, which Gilleran described as an attempted murder.
