Fans dreaming of Euro 2024 commentary duo with former England star ‘like a kid at Christmas’ live on TV

ENGLAND fans are pushing for Andros Townsend to be paired with Ally McCoist to form an ideal commentary duo for Euro 2024 matches.

Some went as far to label the former England winger as the ‘best commentator’ during Albania’s dramatic 2-2 draw with Croatia in Group B on Wednesday.

While the game was coined as one of the most entertaining of the Euros so far, it was Townsend who left a lasting impression with England fans.

The 32-year-old is a rare phenomenon in commentary terms, as he is summarising the action whilst still an active player for Luton Town.

Townsend and Seb Hutchinson took the ITV microphone in the match which saw Croatia crumble in the final seconds to leave them bottom of the Group of Death.

And fans loved Townsend’s insights, enthusiasm and general commentary style during the thrilling contest.

One fan wrote: “Andros Townsend is absolutely fantastic on co-comms. Out of the same bracket as Ally McCoist, you can tell he just loves it. They’re like a couple of kids at Christmas.”

A second noted: “Andros Townsend has slotted in just below Ally McCoist in my list of favourite football co-commentators.”

While another said: “First time I’ve ever heard a co-commentator react to the final whistle by saying “Oh no!” because he didn’t want the match to end. Andros Townsend speaks for us all.”

A fourth declared: “I am here, once again, to say that Andros Townsend has been a breath of fresh air on co-commentary.

A fifth chimed in: “You can tell he absolutely loves the game but also that he’s determined to only speak when he can offer some genuine insight.”

Meanwhile Klaus Gjasula’s late equaliser secured a deserved point for Albania as they drew 2-2 with Luka Modric‘s Croatia.

After scoring the fastest goal at a European Championships against Italy in their opening game, Albania followed it up with another early strike from Qazim Laci in the 11th minute.

They continued to impress in the first half – missing a string of opportunities – while Croatia failed to register a shot on target.

But the Croats scored two quick-fire goals in an improved second half to see themselves ahead, before Gjasula slotted home in 90+5.

Meanwhile, Jim Proudfoot and former England captain Stuart Pearce will provide the live commentary while the Three Lions take on Denmark at 5pm on Thursday.

Elsewhere Townsend will return to his co-commentator duties for Poland vs Austria on Friday at 5pm.
