Former Ranji Cricketer David Johnson Dies by Suicide – Check DEETS

Former Indian and Karnataka Ranji Cricketer David Johnson committed suicide by jumping from 4th floor of a private apartment on Thursday.

New Delhi: Former Indian and Karnataka Ranji cricketer David Johnson, aged 52, committed suicide by jumping from the 4th floor of SLV Paradise apartment on Thursday. According to sources Johnson too the extreme step as he was suffering from depression.

After receiving the information, Kothanur police visited the spot. His body is taken to Crescent Hospital.

Who is David Jhonson?

David Jhonson, born on October 16, 1971, was a former Indian cricketer known for his short International career as a pacer. He represented India in two test matches in the year of 1996, making his debut against Australia. Despite his great start and notable pace, he struggled with his consistency and injuries, which restricted him from getting opportunities at the International level. Johnson’s career highlight was clocking a bowling speed of 157.8 km/h during the Test match against Australia.

Although, Johnson continued to play domestic cricket and represented Karnataka, where he had more success and contributed to his side’s bowling unit. After retirement he was involved in coaching and nurturing young cricketers.

His domestic career lasted for 39 First-Class matches and snatched 125 wickets he also picked up four five-wicket hauls and a ten-wicket haul.

Johnson was one of the fastest Indian pacers and his performance in the domestic circuit- his best bowling figures of 10 for 152 against Kerala during 1995-96 Ranji Trophy season mad his way into the Indian team. He made his Test debut against Australia in the one-off Test in New Delhi in 1996. He managed to dismiss Michael Slater during Australia’s tour of India.

The right-arm bowler was also part of the tour of South Africa but got featured in first test only, taking the wickets of Herschelle Gibbs and Brian McMillan.

“Saddened to hear the passing of my cricketing colleague David Johnson. Heartfelt condolences to his family. Gone too soon “ Benny”!” India cricket legend Anil Kumble tweeted.

“Saddened by the passing away of David Johnson. May god give strength to his family and loved ones.” Gautam Gambhir tweeted.
