Should Buffalo teachers intervene to stop fights?
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- The Buffalo Board of Education's Vice President of Student Achievement joined us on News 4 Wednesday afternoon to discuss teacher intervention in student fights.
Larry Scott says Buffalo Public Schools have been making efforts to stop violence, including additional security at the district's elementary buildings and more mental health resources.
During the discussion on News 4, Scott spoke about student and teacher safety, and how there's a debate on whether or not teachers should intervene in fights.
The district's board president, Sharon Belton-Cottman says teachers should be required to get involved physically to stop a fight. With the pushback this has received from teachers, Scott highlighted that nothing requires teachers to physically get involved.
In the video above, Scott discusses safety concerns and methods for de-escalating situations.
