Six outdoor pools open for the summer season, one more on the way

Six outdoor community pools in Portland will open on June 20 and remain open through late summer, with extended hours and extended hours at some pools, while the Montavilla outdoor pool will reopen on July 22.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – It’s officially summer, and that means six outdoor community pools will open in Portland to offer a way to cool off as temperatures rise.

Pools at Creston, Grant, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Peninsula, Pier and Sellwood will open Thursday, June 20 and remain open through late summer.

The pools have also extended their hours to help meet community demand: Grant, Ida B. Wells, Pier, and Sellwood Pools will remain open through Aug. 23, and the last day for Peninsula and Creston will be Sept. 6.

The Montavilla outdoor pool is also expected to open on July 22 after closing due to a planned revamping of the pool's plumbing and drain cover. Once open, it will remain operational until Aug. 23.

“Portlanders’ swim safety is paramount,” Portland Parks and Recreation Director Adena Long said. “We appreciate swimmers’ and families’ patience and understanding alongside the diligent work of our maintenance teams as we adjust our reopening plans to prioritize swim safety for all.”

Three of Portland Parks and Recreation’s indoor pools – in Southwest and East Portland – also remain open through summer.

Admission and pass prices can be found on the City of Portland's website.

Officials are still working on the planned North Portland Aquatic Center at Northgate Park. The project has been in the works in the years after the Columbia pool shut down in 2020 and never reopened.
