Homeowners are going wild for Ninja’s latest ice cream maker – and there’s 20 new flavours Brits are desperate to try

GEN Z is shunning ice cream classics like mint choc chip and strawberry in favour of non-traditional options such as peanut butter, bubble-gum and avocado.

JUST 26 per cent of adults aged up to 27 like mint choc chip, 38 per cent like strawberry and only 13 per cent go for rum and raisin.

However, both younger and older people believe ‘anything’ can become an ice cream flavour[/caption]

But the research of 2,000 ice cream eaters found younger generations are trying new and quirky flavours more than older.

Rhubarb (15 per cent) and beloved biscuits like Jaffa Cakes (19 per cent) are among the flavours they would most like to try.

But for the Gen X, their favourite is still the classic plain vanilla (68 per cent).

The research was commissioned by QVC as it launches the Ninja Creami Deluxe ice cream maker on its website.

Kate James from the online retailer said: “It’s interesting to see that older adults are still sticking to the tried-and-tested flavours they grew up with but younger people are more willing to experiment.

“We also know ice cream making at home has been a growing trend with Google searches doubling since last year – let’s see what flavours they can come up with.”

Other flavours those born after 1996 would like to try include marshmallow (16 per cent) and even popcorn (nine per cent).

Gen Z also admit they’re most likely to try hip food trends like charcoal ice cream – more than any other age group.

And while only four per cent of Gen X – born between 1965 and 1980 – say they’re ‘very adventurous’ with their food choices, 23 per cent of Gen Z feel they are.

Across all age groups, 45 per cent agree that ‘anything’ can – and seemingly will – be made into an ice cream flavour nowadays.

But a third (34 per cent) confess they’ve become less experimental with their food choices as the years have gone by.

And nine in 10 confess they’ll sometimes try something new – only to regret it and wish they’d stuck with an old classic.

And more than half (52 per cent) chow down on ice cream all year round, not just in summer, according to the OnePoll.com figures.

With afternoon the most popular time to devour the frozen treat (40 per cent) while almost a third (29 per cent) reckon any time of the day is appropriate.

On the sofa in front of the TV is the preferred place to eat it (40 per cent) with the garden the next most popular spot (24 per cent) – with the majority using a dessert spoon.

The Ninja Creami Deluxe creates treats from frozen yoghurts and ice creams to frappes and slushies – and an ‘ice cream bike’ has been created to travel around London this Friday and Saturday, serving up the flavours Londoners are most keen to try.

QVC’s Kate James added “Everyone loves a classic such as vanilla ice cream.

“Now they can make that at home as well as other flavours and iced drinks this summer.

“Although, as our research has shown half of us will be eating it all year round.”
