Daniel Hagari, the Israeli army spokesperson, told Israel’s media on Wednesday that Hamas is an ideology and “we cannot eliminate an ideology.”

However, the Israeli Prime Minister’s office quickly rejected these statements, emphasizing Israel’s commitment to the destruction of Hamas.

In unprecedented remarks, the Israeli army spokesperson said, “To say that we will make Hamas disappear is like throwing dust in people’s eyes. Without offering an alternative, we will continue to have Hamas.”

These comments prompted a swift response from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In a statement, the office clarified that Netanyahu’s cabinet had set the destruction of Hamas’s military and governmental capabilities as one of the current war’s objectives.

The statement emphasized that the Israeli army is committed to achieving this goal.

During the ongoing war in Gaza, which has lasted for more than eight months, Israeli officials have consistently stressed that this conflict will continue until the “complete destruction” of Hamas.

The current conflict in Gaza began with a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 last year. In this attack, Hamas killed 1,200 people and took over 250 hostages in Gaza.

According to information from the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, Israeli attacks on Gaza have resulted in the deaths of more than 37,000 Palestinians.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate. Thousands of Palestinians are living in dire conditions, with limited access to basic necessities such as food, water, and medical supplies. International aid organizations have been struggling to provide relief amidst the ongoing conflict.
