Kiefer Sutherland breaks silence on dad Donald’s death at 88 calling him ‘one of the most important actors’ in history

ACTOR Kiefer Sutherland has spoken out following the death of his father, Hollywood legend Donald Sutherland, on Thursday.

Kiefer referred to his father, who started in movies including Pride and Prejudice and The Hunger Games, as the “one of the most important actors in the history of film”.

“With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away,” his son Kiefer Sutherland wrote in a tweet posted to X, formerly known as Twitter.

“I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly.

“He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”

Sutherland died at 88 died in Miami, Florida, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He is survived by his wife Rancine Racette, and children Kiefer, Rachel, Roeg, Rossif, and Angus.

The actors also leaves behind his ex-wife Shirley Douglass.

‘MOST UNDERRATED, UNDER APPRECIATED’

Tributes have started to pour in for the star from fans.

“Donald Sutherland is genuinely one of the most underrated, under appreciated actors of all time,” a fan tweeted.

“Not a role he didn’t instantly elevate by his sheer presence alone.”

Piers Morgan also remembed the star saying, “RIP Donald Sutherland, 88.”

“One of my all-time favourite actors who played so many great roles. What a sad loss.”
