The race for Albert Gudmundsson takes an interesting twist amid Spurs rumours
Albert Gudmundsson has been the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur and a number of top Serie A sides, but the Genoa star is also wanted by clubs in Saudi Arabia, according to his current club’s CEO.
Tottenham are linked with Albert Gudmundsson
Spurs are in the market for a new attacker this summer, and Gudmundsson has been mooted as just one of a number of potential targets for the North London club.
The Icelandic star can play as a number 10, on the wings, and through the middle, and he bagged an impressive 16 goals for Genoa last season, as well as adding five assists (Transfermarkt).
Naturally, Gudmundsson has attracted a lot of attention, with West Ham, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli all thought to be interested (La Repubblica via Calciomercato).
Gudmundsson has lots of options this summer
Apparently, the player’s preference is to wait for Inter to make their move (Il Corriere dello Sport). But, it seems he may have other offers on the table, too.
That’s according to Genoa’s CEO, Andres Blazquez, who has been discussing interest in Gudmundsson from clubs in Saudi Arabia.
In a recent interview with the Saudi media (via Ben Jacobs), Blazquez said: “Albert showed his ability and proved to be one of the best strikers in Serie A, so it is not surprising that some of the biggest clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia are interested in him.”
Whether the player himself would want to make that move or not, remains to be seen.
Spurs Web Opinion
For players in their mid-30s, I can totally understand why a move to Saudi Arabia is appealing, but for someone who is in their peak years like Gudmundsson, surely the idea of moving to that league and playing such a low standard of football is out of the question entirely.
