Escapee from Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office taken into custody

ORIGINAL, 10:21 A.M.: LAKE CHARLES, La. (KLFY) -- The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for a man who escaped custody Wednesday.

Malik D. Williams, 23, Lake Charles, ran off during an investigation at a residence on Gulf Highway in Lake Charles.

Authorities said Williams was being detained in the back of a unit after being arrested on charges of domestic abuse. When a deputy opened the door to check on Williams, he was able to slip out of his handcuffs and run away.

Deputies set up a perimeter and conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate Williams. He was last seen wearing gray Nike shorts, no shirt and black and white Nike shoes.

An arrest warrant with bail in the amount of $375,000 has been issued for his arrest, charging him with domestic abuse battery and simple escape.

CPSO is continuing the search but is asking anyone who may know the whereabouts of Williams to call 337-491-3605. You can also submit an anonymous tip by using the CloseWatch Calcasieu app or by calling Crime Stoppers at 337-439-2222. Anyone found to be assisting or harboring him will be charged accordingly, authorities said.
