A home pedicure won’t leave you footing the bill if you nail it with these price-conscious steps

WANT to get your feet ready for summer sandals?

Then it’s time for  a luxury pedicure.

Get your feet ready for summer in the comfort of your own home with these top tips

But rather than splashing out on a pricey salon, do your own with these price-conscious steps . . .

SUPER SOAK: Start by trimming and filing your nails to the desired length. It’s best to cut nails when dry to help prevent tearing.

Then grab a washing-up bowl and fill with warm water.

Add half a cup of Epsom salts (you can get a lavender-infused pack from Poundland for £1) and give your feet a good soak to help break down hard skin. The salt is anti-bacterial and relaxing,  so it is great for tired feet.

SCRUB DOWN: Whip up your own easy foot scrub using three teaspoons of brown sugar and one tablespoon of olive oil. Massage the mixture to help soften and smooth the skin, paying extra attention to the heels and balls of the feet.

Wash off with warm water, then dry feet and use a flat foot file (£2.87 from Boots) to target any remaining hard skin.

OIL UP: Use an oil to help moisturise your skin and nails. You can simply rub a little vegetable oil on to feet. It will soak into the nail and moisturise to help prevent dryness and cracking.

BACK TO BASE: You should always use a base coat on nails to stop polish discolouring the nails. Barry M’s all-in-one base and top coat is £2.99 from Superdrug.

Then pick your favourite colour polish.

A bold, bright shade, such as red or pink, is perfect for summer.

W7 Most Wanted set of nail polish is £1.99 from Wilko and includes five different shades to choose from.

Apply a couple of coats to build up colour. Finish with a top coat to help prevent chipping.

Get rid of any polish on the skin with a cotton bud dipped in nail varnish remover.
