TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Boys & Girls Club in Troy participated in an event called “The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson”. This event, which occurred simultaneously at pools globally, aims to teach swimming and prevent drowning. 

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention reports that every year there are 4000 fatal unintentional drownings. That works out to 11 deaths per day. There are 8000 non-fatal drownings annually (22 per day). In the US drowning is the leading cause of death for children aged 1-4.
