Elon Musk sends message ‘through space in less than five mins’ with tiny new Starlink Mini that gives you Wi-Fi anywhere
ELON Musk’s Starlink is now providing users with Internet connectivity on the go – thanks to a tool that fits easily in your backpack.
The first satellites were launched into space in 2019 and have been beaming Internet down to Earth ever since.
The Starlink Mini antenna began retailing Wednesday. It provides on-the-go Internet connectivity and fits easily in a backpack[/caption]A new antenna, dubbed the Starlink Mini, debuted last week. It comes with a built-in Wi-Fi router and is roughly the size of a sheet of paper.
The antenna eats up less power than other Starlink terminals but delivers speeds over 100Mbps – enough to download an HD movie in five minutes.
On X, formerly Twitter, Musk boasted that he’d set up the service in “less than 5 minutes” and was “writing this post through space”.
“Easily carried in a backpack. This product will change the world,” the tech tycoon wrote on June 17.
Starlink Mini officially went on sale Wednesday, as announced in an email to early customers reviewed by The U.S. Sun.
“Our goal is to reduce the price of Starlink, especially for those around the world where connectivity has been unaffordable or completely unavailable,” the email read.
“But in regions with high usage, where Starlink Mini places additional demand on the satellite network, we are offering a limited number of the Starlink Mini Kits to start for $599.”
Other features include a DC power input and operating temperatures between -22°F and 122°F.
Customers were invited to bundle the Mini Roam service with their existing Residential service plan for an additional $30 a month.
The plan offers 50 GB of Mobile data that can be used anywhere in the United States. Additional data will cost $1 per GB.
Starlink already provides Internet connectivity in 75 countries, everywhere from cities to remote villages.
Last year, a satellite was installed on the lands of the Marubo people in the Amazon rainforest. The tribe gained access to the Internet for the first time ever.
Musk has a hand in several different ventures at once across the motor, tech and social media industries.
He founded SpaceX, Starlink’s parent company, in 2002.
It was the first private company to launch astronauts into orbit, as well as the first to dock a crewed spacecraft with the International Space Station.

He snapped up the social media company in 2022 for $44 billion and quickly set about making changes.
Just last week, Musk drew backlash for hiding likes, enraging users who wanted to share their activity with their friends.
In an announcement, X’s engineering team deemed the move a privacy measure.
