I keep imagining how it must feel to open your eyes after a night spent on the hard ground, while well-dressed people walk past, seemingly indifferent, says Suzanne Westover.

Friday morning as I was walking to work, the lampposts on Bank Street were festooned with rainbow flags to mark Pride month, snapping jauntily in the wind. There were pretty trees in full bloom, some still strung with festive Christmas lights, sparkling in the dawn of early morning.
