'The Girl, So Confusing Version With Lorde' Lyrics Revealed: Charli XCX & Lorde Address Feud Rumors

Charli XCX and Lorde put rumors of a feud and any potential bad blood to rest with the release of “the girl, so confusing version with Lorde.”

On Friday (June 21), the 31-year-old “Boom Clap” hitmaker joined forces with the 27-year-old “Royals” singer for a remix of the song, which is from her new album Brat.

The original version of the song is about a fellow female pop star who Charli has been pitted against. While it wasn’t official, some fans believed that she was singing about Lorde because the pair have often drawn comparisons.

On the new version, Lorde and Charli seem to work things out.

“Yeah, I don’t know if you like me / Sometimes I think you might hate me / Sometimes I think I might hate you / Maybe you just wanna be me,” Charli sings on the opening verse, adding that it “feels a bit awkward” when they hang out since they “don’t have much in common.”

Lorde comes in to reveal how she felt when Charli reached out.

“Well, honestly, I was speechless / When I woke up to your voice note / You told me how you’d been feeling / Let’s work it out on the remix,” she sings, continuing to reflect upon her own insecurities.

“You always say, ‘Let’s go out’ / But then I cancel last minute / I was so lost in my head / And scared to be in your pictures / ‘Cause for the last couple years I’ve been at war with my body / I tried to starve myself thinner / Then I gained all the weight back,” she admits. “I was trapped in a hatred / And your life seemed so awesome / I never thought for a second / My voice was in your head.”

The pair join forces, and Lorde makes it abundantly clear that they are on good terms, singing, “‘Cause I ride for you, Charli.”

If you missed it, Charli recently addressed being jealous of Lorde after the success of “Royals.” She also revealed that she almost dressed up as the hitmaker for Halloween one year.
