Malik Monk voted Most Stylish NBA Player per GQ

In one of the biggest upsets of the NBA season, Malik Monk has dethroned Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the title of Most Stylish NBA Player. Voting took place all week on the GQ Sports Instagram account, and while Shai made his way to the final round for the third straight year, a mighty contingent of Monk voters took him down.

Sacramento is celebrating keeping Monk, but we should also celebrate Malik’s journey.
Dude was almost out of the league a few years ago. He takes minimum money in LA, signs another small deal in Sac that he immediately outplays, and now just got a $78M bag.

There was skepticism if 4/$78 million was enough for the Kings to re-sign Malik Monk. Not only was it enough to re-sign him, but also keep him from testing the market in July.
So far, the earlier negotiation window seems to give teams an advantage toward keeping non-max players. – 11:24 PM

If the Kings were to trade for Zach LaVine before free agency begins, they’re probably very confident that Malik Monk is leaving.
A LaVine (on his own) trade should only be considered if/after Malik walks. – 6:04 PM

More on this storyline

Monk—who really put himself on the map, fashion-wise, this season—was making his first-ever appearance in the bracket. On his way to becoming Most Stylish, he beat out fellow upstart Jalen Williams in the first round. Then, he had to go through two veterans of both the NBA and its fashion scene: Russell Westbrook and LeBron James. That set him up for the final showdown against SGA, who went through PJ Tucker, Jayson Tatum, and Devin Booker to get there. -via GQ.com / June 21, 2024
Yossi Gozlan: Malik Monk’s year-by-year cap hit projections on his four year, $78 million contract with the Sacramento Kings. It is the most he can get with them through his Early Bird rights. The Kings now project to be slightly over the $171.3 million luxury tax line with 13 players. pic.twitter.com/IC4qZHfv5U -via Twitter @YossiGozlan / June 21, 2024
Adrian Wojnarowski: Monk’s agents Jeff Schwartz and Marcus Monk of @excelbasketball were able to start negotiations after the NBA Finals and avoid free agency with the maximum contract Kings are allowed to pay Monk. Huge offseason priority for Sacramento. -via x.com / June 20, 2024
