According to Tuttosport, Newcastle United have now made advances towards the signing of Juventus starlet Dean Huijsen, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Huijsen has made just one senior appearance for Juve but the Bianconeri academy graduate has seen his stock rise substantially over the last few months after he impressed during his loan spell at Roma during the second half of last season.

It was reported by HITC towards the end of May that Spurs had been impressed with the centre-back’s performances at the Stadio Olimpico and were plotting a move for him.

The outlet suggested that Ange Postecoglou’s men are ‘looking closely’ at Huijsen and had asked Juve ‘to be kept informed’ of their plans for the defender.

Newcastle and others enter race for Huijsen

According to TuttoSport, the Mapgies have now made movements over recent days to seek more information about Huijsen’s availability.

The report says that Newcastle, Borussia Dortmund and Girona are the three clubs ‘at the window’ to sign the defender, with Juve’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli ‘maintaining close relationships’ with those sides.

It is alleged that the young centre-back is not in the plans of new boss Thiago Motta and the Old Lady are willing to sell him for around €30m (£25.3m).

Spurs Web Opinion

Experienced and proven centre-backs might not be too keen on making a move to Spurs this summer as they would expect assurances of game time.

Tottenham might thus have to take a bet on a young, up-and-coming defender like Huijsen unless Postecoglou feels he can promote one of Ashely Phillips or Alfie Dorrington to the first team.
