Constitutional amendment returns to November ballot
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — This week on Empire State Weekly, legal back and forth ended with a constitutional amendment that would enshrine protections regarding abortion and LGBTQ rights, into the State Constitution. Elisa Crespo, the Executive Director of the New Pride Agenda, spoke on this amendment's impact if passed in November. She explained that the amendment would add additional protections to the state's constitution by specifically prohibiting discrimination based on quote "gender identity" and "pregnancy outcomes".
Also, this week State Senator Andrew Gounardes, a Democrat Representing the 26th district, explained the positive impact of recently signed SAFE For Kids, and Child Data Protection laws. Both laws passed during the legislative session, and offer additional protections to what the governor calls dangers of social media including; so-called addictive algorithm-based social media feeds.
