Police arrest Watervliet man for assaulting a child

State Police arrested a Watervliet man for allegedly assaulting and endangering the welfare of a child.

WATERVLIET, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- State Police arrested a Watervliet man for allegedly assaulting and endangering the welfare of a child. Police said Jayvion A. Smith, 20, was arrested on Wednesday after an investigation into a child who was found with unexplained bruising.

Police said through an investigation into the incident on May 17 that the bruised child was left under Smith's supervision. According to police, Smith disciplined the toddler and caused the visible bruising.

Police said the child is expected to make a full recovery. Smith was arraigned in Malta Town Court and released.
