Albany organizations clean up after summer storm
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -Another day of heavy rain and wind swept through the Capital Region. NEWS10's Anthony Krolikowski checked in with some Albany neighborhoods to see how the area is cleaning up.
LaSalle School found its parking lot littered with heavy branches. In front of the student housing was a similar sight as everything inside continued as usual. Assistant Program Director, Jeremiah Edwards, says as concerning as the weather has been the last few days, the kids are prepared for whatever comes to Albany.
"It has made things a little bit difficult for maintenance to make sure that things are cleared and there aren’t any trip hazards and hazard areas due to the tree falling," stated Edwards. "In case of a blackout, power outages, what to do, where to be. Those things are informed with them (the kids) on pretty much a monthly and daily basis."
The nearby National Little League of Albany thought the season-ending games would be in jeopardy after large tree limbs littered the field, equipment was tossed around and the bleachers pushed into fences. But volunteers came through with short notice and cleared most of the damage in a day's time.
"Chain sawing limbs, raking, pulling branches off fences and as you can see, clearing this field to the point where you can play now," explained Vice President, Jordan Carleo-Evangelist. One section is still taped off where a large branch dangles overhead.
This weekend's games will go on if the rain holds off and the heat calms down. Sunday will be the league's closing ceremony. "The thing is, we hadn’t lost any games. We had beautiful weather all season. Better than I can remember. We've been so, so lucky and then this last week really just whacked us," explained Carleo-Evangelist.
