ANOTHER major supermarket is giving away free product vouchers at the checkout – but there’s a button you’ll need to press to get them.

But the supermarket giant isn’t the only one giving away goodies to its loyalty card customers.

Sainsbury’s is now handing free product vouchers to shoppers for Nectar card holders on their recepit.

Loyalty customers can get personalised coupons at the till for targeted promotions, which can include free products.

Posting in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, one shopper said: “Sainsbury’s also doing free products! Always worth asking for your receipts.”

They shared a picture alongside the post, showing two voucher freebies – one for £3 Lenor outdoorable Spring awakening fabric conditioner (55 Washes) and another for £2.50 Fairy max power original washing up liquid (370ml).

The vouchers are valid until June 25 and are worth £5.50 altogether.

If you want to see if you’ve been given a freebie voucher, make sure you ask the cashier for your receipt once you have paid for your shopping.

It’s important to remember that if you’re using a self-service, you’ll need to select the option to print your receipt because it isn’t automatically generated.

If you get one of these vouchers, you’ll simply need to swipe your Nectar card and scan the coupon to claim the freebie the next time you visit Sainsbury’s.

How does Nectar Card work?

Sainsbury’s has been part of the Nectar scheme since 2002, buying it out in 2018.

Customers collect points when buying certain products or goods, in-store and online.

You receive one loyalty point for every £1 spent.

You also get one point for every £1 spent on fuel bought at Sainsbury’s petrol stations and can pick up points at hundreds of partners as well, including Esso and eBay.

You can register and download an e-Nectar Card by downloading the app on your smartphone.

You then have to swipe it every time you shop and the points are added to your account, which can be used to get money off future purchases.

Each point is effectively worth 0.5p, meaning you need 500 points to get £2.50 off.

You can also sign up to the scheme on Sainsbury’s website.

How to save on your supermarket shop

THERE are plenty of ways to save on your grocery shop.

You can look out for yellow or red stickers on products, which show when they’ve been reduced.

If the food is fresh, you’ll have to eat it quickly or freeze it for another time.

Making a list should also save you money, as you’ll be less likely to make any rash purchases when you get to the supermarket.

Going own brand can be one easy way to save hundreds of pounds a year on your food bills too.

This means ditching “finest” or “luxury” products and instead going for “own” or value” type of lines.

Plenty of supermarkets run wonky veg and fruit schemes where you can get cheap prices if they’re misshapen or imperfect.

For example, Lidl runs its Waste Not scheme, offering boxes of 5kg of fruit and vegetables for just £1.50.

If you’re on a low income and a parent, you may be able to get up to £442 a year in Healthy Start vouchers to use at the supermarket too.

Plus, many councils offer supermarket vouchers as part of the Household Support Fund.

Do other supermarkets offer vouchers with receipts?

A number of high street retailers offer vouchers and other freebies on the pieces of paper, so you won’t want to throw them away.

Shoppers have revealed how keeping hold of the paper has helped them to bag hundreds of pounds worth of products for free in the past.

One Asda shopper revealed how she got a Christmas turkey worth £17 completely for free after scouring through old receipts found at her local branch.

Meanwhile, Boots gives customers the chance to get money off future purchases.

Customers have been known to receive £5 off certain products on their next shop after scanning through on the self-service checkout.

In most cases, you can redeem any freebies or bonus loyalty points by scanning your receipt at the till, or handing it over to a staff member.

You should be able to redeem any online too.
