My sisters don’t acknowledge my existence and haven’t been in contact with me for six months

DEAR DEIDRE: SINCE a family wedding, six months ago, my sisters haven’t been in contact with me.

They regularly meet for coffee, but always leave me out – like they did when we three girls were growing up.

It hurts. I’m 35, and my sisters are 36 and 38.

As a child, they wouldn’t allow me to join in their games, and they’d stop me coming into their bedrooms.

They’re constantly posting on Instagram how much they love each other yet they don’t acknowledge my existence.

I haven’t done anything to them to deserve this, and it’s painful.

I’d like to ask them to get in touch, but I fear I’ll be ignored again.

DEIDRE SAYS: Patterns from childhood often become ingrained, so it’s possible they aren’t aware how upset you are.

It’s time to express your feelings so that they understand and you can reframe your relationship. Send a message asking if you can meet to talk.

My support pack Standing Up For Yourself should help you get the message across.
