Journalist gives two reasons why English side are favourites to sign Spurs player

Journalist Graham Smyth believes that Joe Rodon is likely to end up back at Elland Road, insisting that Leeds United have some big advantages over the other clubs in the race for the Tottenham man.

Joe Rodon had a great season at Leeds last year

Since Leeds’ defeat in the playoff final to Southampton, various outlets have played down their chances of landing Rodon permanently, with reports over the last week suggesting that the defender is more likely to end up at a Premier League side.

This includes an update by Football Insider, who suggested that all three newly promoted Premier League clubs are keen on landing the 26-year-old, who is valued at £10m.

Football.London also reported something similar, stating that Leicester City are particularly keen on the Wales international, with the club’s recruitment team said to be admirers of the Spurs man.

Could Joe Rodon be on his way back to Leeds?

However, Smyth has now remarked that Rodon felt completely at home at Leeds last season and that the centre-back will feel that he has some unfinished business with Daniel Farke’s mane after failing to get them promoted.

The journalist said on Inside Elland Road Podcast: “With the Rodon thing that might be quite protracted as I don’t think there will be a loan if they go in for him. There will be others who want him as well and they are going to have to put together a really solid case.

“Part of their solid case will be that he wants to be here (at Leeds), as by all accounts last season he felt like he had found a home at Elland Road. That will weigh massively in Leeds’ favour, though I’m not saying that money doesn’t talk and Premier League status doesn’t talk.

“But I certainly think when at least two of your best pals from your international team and all the friends you made last season, he was very close with Archie Gray and a couple of others.

“When they are still at Leeds, touch wood, then why not go back and enjoy yourself a second year to get the job done. He feels to me like a ‘I want to get the job done and completed’ type of bloke.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This seems like wishful thinking from a journalist who supports Leeds.

While Rodon might have felt at home at Elland Road, I doubt he would reject Premier League offers in favour of a return to the Championship side, particularly since the Yorkshire club would first need to sell players before they can even afford a deal for the centre-back.
