Crash closes I-5 southbound lanes south of Salem

A single-car fatal crash closed the southbound lanes of I-5 just south of Salem Saturday afternoon in what investigators with the Oregon State Police said may have been intentional.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A single-car fatal crash closed the southbound lanes of I-5 just south of Salem Saturday afternoon in what investigators with the Oregon State Police said may have been intentional.

According to ODOT, the crash happened at around 2:30 p.m. near milepost 251, just south of the Kuebler Boulevard interchange.

Around 3:45 p.m., officials said one lane reopened. However, emergency crews may need to close the lane again at some point.

Commuters should expect delays and are encouraged to use an alternate route or avoid the area.

The Oregon State Police told KOIN 6 News the crash was "a single vehicle, single occupant fatal crash - suspected suicide."
