Afghanistan Players Celebrate On ‘Champion’ Song After Shocking Australia In T20 World Cup 2024 – WATCH

New Delhi: Afghanistan players celebrated their historic victory over Australia in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 by dancing on the ‘Champion’ song by Dwayne Bravo on their way back to the hotel. Led by Rashid Khan, Afghanistan are turning out to be the world beaters as they registered their first-ever win over the mighty Aussies in any format. Surely the victory deserves celebration.

In a video that was shared on Instagram by all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, the whole team grooved to the iconic ‘Champion’ song in the team bus that reverberated throughout the whole Caribbean islands in 2016. Notably, former West Indies all-rounder Bravo is currently the bowling coach of Afghanistan.

Afghanistan’s win opened the whole Group 1 in the Super 8 stage in the race for the semifinals. With two wins from as many games, India are on top of the group with four points. The Men in Blue will need to win against Australia on Monday for a semifinal spot.

On the other hand, Afghanistan need a win over Bangladesh to oust Australia from the tournament. The win on Sunday will definitely motivate the Afghanistan players to do well again against Bangladesh on Monday.

Earlier, chasing a modest 149, Glenn Maxwell led Australia’s charge with a fighting 59, but his efforts went in vain as the rest of his teammates struggled against Afghanistan’s formidable attack. Earlier, Afghanistan posted 148/6, thanks to impressive half-centuries from openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (60) and Ibrahim Zadran (51).

While defending, all-rounder Gulbadin Naib produced his career-best figures of 4/20 and Naveen-ul-Haq snared 3/20 as Australia were bundled out for 127 in 19.2 overs. Afghanistan had earlier defeated New Zealand in the group stage. Meanwhile, the addition of Bravo in Afghanistan’s coaching staff is considered as one of the biggest positive for them.

Pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi is the highest wicket taker in the tournament so far with 15 wickets. Bravo’s death bowling experience has changed Afghanistan’s pace bowling unit in T20 World Cup 2024.
