Kevin Costner Reveals the Wild Activities He Enjoys With His 3 Teens at Their Ocean-Front Home

Family time for the Costners is full of adventure. The Yellowstone star opened up about his favorite things to do with his teenagers Cayden, 17, Hayes, 15, and Grace, 14, who he shares with ex-wife Christine Baumgartner, and it seems like wild fun.

In a new interview with PEOPLE, Costner shared that he and his kids enjoy spending time at the Pacific Ocean near their Santa Barbara home surfing, spearfishing, lobster-diving, and “naming every critter in the tide pool.” He added, “They surf, and they dive, and we spear fish…We use every inch of the ocean, and the property…It’s a perfect place for us.”

It sounds amazing — like every day is full of excitement! Of course, Costner also has his fair share of mundane parenting activities, too. “They’re like shooting stars,” Costner said of his teens. “My life is driving up and down the freeway just trying to get the children where they think they need to be… but that’s part of the job.”

He continued, “I’m an Uber guy. I’m not any different than anybody else!”

To be fair, he is a little different from everyone else as an A-list actor. Costner, who is also dad to Annie, 40, Lily, 37, Joe, 36, and Liam, 26, from previous relationships, brought five of his children to the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival last month. They celebrated the premiere of his film Horizon: An American Saga, where Hayes made his acting debut. Not to mention, his older three kids were all in the Oscar-winning 1990 movie Dances With Wolves with their dad, which he joked “were my home movies.”

In an interview with Today earlier this month, Costner defended his choice to cast his kids in his films. “I have not shoved my children into the business,” he said. “I realize there’s so many young actors that would just kill to be in this movie and I don’t want to take those parts away from them just ‘cause I can place my own children in. But in this instance, it was a smaller part. I selfishly wanted him with me for the week, two weeks he was with me.”

Still, the family seems to be pretty down-to-earth, with Hayes telling PEOPLE that acting with his dad “felt like the greatest way that we could bond over something we both love and to create lasting memories together.” He added, “Working with my dad was an unforgettable moment in time.”

These celebrity parents are sharing the struggle — and sweetness — of raising teenagers.
