Jonathan Cannon looks to build off strong last start as South Siders aim for the series win

Happy Sunday, today the Chicago White Sox have a chance to win a series, which is a rarity. They will play the finale of this three-game set against the Detroit Tigers after evening the series at one game apiece yesterday.

But first, a little surprise this morning!

Eloy Jiménez is back! Again! I don’t know how many times we’ve said this, but this time they didn’t do a big formal announcement so the team is probably used to Eloy being sidelined by now, too. Anyways, with Jiménez back Oscar Colás goes back to Charlotte, which is a whole other story. It feels like he’s been jerked back and forth more than any other player.

Jonathan Cannon will face Reese Olson in a righty/righty day. Cannon had an outstanding outing his last time out against the Houston Astros, exiting one out shy of a complete game shutout. Of course, Pedro Grifol didn’t let him get the job done after allowing back-to-back hits, but he was well past the 100-pitch mark at that point so better safe than sorry. He went 8 2⁄3 innings with seven hits, no runs, one walk and four strikeouts. His success has been a pleasant surprise thus far, and with these young pitchers the most important thing this season is to grow on that. Let’s see what Cannon can do against this Tigers lineup today.

Olson doesn’t have the prettiest record at 1-8, but his ERA is sustainable at 3.39 with a 1.23 WHIP. Why is he 1-8? Well, probably because of this.

His last outing against the Atlanta Braves was very good, as Olsen went six innings with four hits, no runs, and eight strikeouts. He is due for a positive regression, so let’s see what he brings today, and if the trend of the Tigers offense leaving him out to dry continues.

Jiménez in the 3-hole. No Luis Robert Jr. today. Martín Maldonado gets the start at catcher because Korey Lee hit a home run yesterday and is being punished.

Game time is at 12:40 p.m. CT on NBCSCHI and ESPN 1000.
