Paige took to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook to share the epic bargain.

Posting a snap of the Challenge 7K air conditioner, she wrote: “Air con at Argos half price!”

While some people were quick to tag their friends, others revealed they’d already snapped up one of the machines – reduced from £350 to £175.

“I’ve got two air cons and they are a life saver, if you can get one,” one wrote.

The Challenge air con machine is suitable for rooms from 9 to 14 metres squared.

It’s got an output of 7000BTU and a noise level of 62dB.

And the positive reviews kept on coming on the Argos website, with one person writing: “I was a bit dubious as although it is still a large amount of money to drop on something, there seemed to be better more expensive models available.

“I highly recommend this, we put it into our baby’s room and it worked a dream.

“Cools very quickly and was a lifesaver during the extreme weather.

“Once the baby’s room was cool and he was asleep we could move into our own room to make sleeping comfortable for us as well.”

As another added: “Omg this was such an amazing purchase!!! It is expensive but we’re hoping it’ll last for years to come.

“With a newborn this heat that been awful so this air-conditioning unit has been amazing!

“If you can, would fully recommend it.

“It is noisy but doesn’t bother us or our baby one bit.”

A third called it a “godsend”, while someone else said: “Brought this due to the heatwave and for my dogs.

How to stay safe in hot weather

The UK Health Security Agency advised you follow these tips to reduce your risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke:

  • Keep out of the sun at the hottest time of the day, between 11am and 3pm
  • If you are going to do a physical activity like exercising or walking the dog, plan to do these during times of the day when it is cooler such as the morning or evening
  • Keep your home cool by closing windows and curtains in rooms that face the sun
  • If you go outside, cover up with light clothing, a hat and sunglasses and slather on sun cream
  • Drink plenty of fluids but limit booze
  • Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke and what to do if you or someone else has them
  • Check on family, friends and neighbours who may be at higher risk of becoming unwell, and if you are at higher risk, ask them to do the same for you
