Elden Ring fans are quitting Shadow of the Erdtree despite loving the original game

ELDEN Ring was the best release of 2022, and gamers have been begging for me ever since they finished it.

Their prayers were finally answered when Shadow of the Erdtree launched, but fans are now quitting the game en masse.

The expansion includes a new map, enemies and most importantly bosses, but progression has also changed since the original release.

This has led many to leave negative reviews of the DLC, particularly on Steam, with the majority claiming it has an unfair level of difficulty.

Many players overleveled their characters in preparation for the DLC, hoping that they would have an easier time once the expansion launched.

However, the difficulty of the DLC is scaled to your level, meaning that no matter what level you are, the difficulty level is the same.

Instead of overleveling, the DLC asks players to use different methods to take down the game’s bosses.

There are a number of helpful items in the base game such as Mimic Tears, which create an AI copy of your character, and co-op pools that allow you to invite another person to come help you fight.

Shadow of the Erdtree also introduced a new item called Scadutree Fragments, which can be used to level up your character.

As these are new items, many older players missed them, and found boss fights much harder than they needed to be.

Many people claim that Shadow of the Erdtree isn’t more difficult than the original game and that some players just aren’t using all of the tools available.

However, it can also be argued that if the use of Scadutree Fragments is not obvious, then that is in itself a form of increased difficulty.

Other players complained that the expansion runs poorly on Steam Deck and players have seen dramatic drops in performance.
