Armed attack in Dagestan, Russia, leaves at least 15 dead

Authorities in Dagestan have reported that the death toll of police officers in a simultaneous armed attack on several religious sites in two cities of the Republic of Dagestan, Russia, has risen to 15.

According to Reuters, following the attack by armed individuals on a synagogue, an Orthodox church, and a police station in two cities of the Republic of Dagestan located in the northern Caucasus, one priest and at least 15 police officers were killed.

Based on reports, the incident occurred in Derbent, Dagestan, when unidentified attackers opened fire on a police traffic inspection post.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for this terrorist attack, and further details have not been disclosed.

Meanwhile, Russian media reported last night about a widespread simultaneous attack on multiple locations in the Republic of Dagestan.

Late last night, unidentified armed men opened fire on a synagogue and a church in Derbent and then fled in a white Volkswagen. Almost simultaneously with the shooting in Derbent, in another city of the republic, Makhachkala, unidentified individuals opened fire on a police traffic inspection post.

Dagestani authorities have announced a three-day period of mourning starting today, Tuesday, in memory of the victims of this incident involving armed men in Makhachkala and Derbent in the republic.
