Albany man arrested following motorcycle pursuit

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- State Police arrested an Albany man following a motorcycle pursuit on Saturday. Shamel Beavers, 29, faces multiple charges in connection with this incident.

Charges

  • Two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Vehicle and traffic law violations

Troopers say that around 7:58 p.m. on Saturday they saw a motorcycle speeding on the Northway in Colonie near exit 4. Troopers reported that when they tried to stop the motorcycle the driver allegedly failed to comply and a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, police say the motorcycle crashed. Beavers was taken into custody and allegedly had an illegal bladed weapon.

Beavers was transported to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. He was released and then issued an appearance ticket for Colonie Town Court on July 24.
