But that has all changed with the news that all forty episodes of the creepy classic have dropped on ITV’s streaming service, ITVX.

The Trap Door was a cult classic when it launched in 1986, and followed a group of misfit monsters living in a castle.

Berk, Drutt and Boni

The main characters were a blue blob named Berk, a spidery creature called Drutt and a skill named Boni.

There was also another main character, the master of the Castle, known as ‘The Thing upstairs’.

His voice was heard barking orders at Berk but he was never seen on screen.

The episodes were very short, running only for five minutes, and the show ran for two series made up of twenty episodes each.

Remember that song?

The series was famed for it’s iconic theme song, which contained the refrain: “Don’t you open that trapdoor, you’re a fool if you dare! Stay away from that trapdoor, ’cause there’s something down there…”

The series was originally released on VHS after its success on CITV, and also scored a DVD release years later.

The show was even sold around the world and proved popular in Australia.

There was also a board game tie-in released, as well as a computer game.

Fans react

News of the show’s release on ITVX has been met with joy from those seeking some childhood nostalgia.

One wrote on X, formerly twitter: “Nice to see good news for a change.”

A second added: “There were only 40 episodes?? Felt like this was half my childhood.”

A third screamed: “important public service announcement!”

Others were annoyed however that the show was only available to premium paying members of ITVX.

“Seems to be premium only though,” one sobbed.

“Ah premium only, brutal,” agreed another.
