Match Reports

Over 35s

The Over 35s were moved to the main stage as the headline act, the finale match on Sunday at Spurs Stadium against Wodonga Heart. The lads were definitely up for this and went on a scoring blitz in the first half, leading 7-0. Milky bagged another 4 goals after Brad got the first, and Eddy scored on his birthday before Townie slotted in our 7th just before halftime. The only downer was losing Kinno, who, it turns out, will be out for a few weeks with a fractured toe.

The second half began, and we were hoping for more of the same. It looked likely when Townie scored his second soon after the restart. The cheering from The Hill was deafening.

To their credit, Heart regrouped and put up a solid defensive effort, keeping us to just one second-half goal. We still dominated possession and created many scoring opportunities. Milky struck the upright, and about half a dozen shots blazed over the bar, much to our disappointment.

In our goals, Lee had a relaxed and casual day, appearing to enjoy the spectacle from his position. Everyone contributed well, and the defense halted any forward attacks from Heart while also providing the attacking thrust that set up our classy midfield and lethal attack.

The FOX was as spectacular as usual and, of course, managed to be caught offside a few times, thanks to his blistering pace creating the illusion of being offside! Captain Mickett continues his match fitness and rebuild after injury. Harro displayed his customary kung fu moves, Rudy tackled himself, and Doug, as usual, was unusual. Mick and Loz owned the central defense, while Scotty and Yasser showed their skills coming off the bench. However, it was The Cobra who caught the eye and was awarded the Grill’d Albury player of the match.

We all enjoyed the good win, knowing the next three fixtures will be a stern test as we come up against the top three dominating teams in the comp.

Over 45s Men

Whoops! 3nil down at half time. What happened?
Definitely a game of 2 halves. We were on the backfoot from the start from a well drilled outfit & struggled to gain any ascendency. As was the case last week we did create some good chances but failed to capitalise on them. With a change of tact at half time we played better football which reflected in the 2nd half scoreline. Our goal came when we caught the opposition napping. Foxy received the ball & made a superb run up the field. With Loz in support Foxy easily passed across the keeper & found Loz unmarked in the area for the easiest of tap ins. More effort needed from us at the start so we are not under the pump during the game.
