KFOR helps woman waiting months for shed to be built

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - A metro woman said she was out just over $4,200 after she paid for a shed to be built and over 6 months later, the company had not built it.

"Right here in this spot,” Krystal Vazquez said pointing to the area in her backyard where they were going to have it built.

Vazquez made that comment June 19. At the time, instead of a shiny new shed in the corner of her backyard, it remained empty.

"Upsetting because I feel like we got scammed,” she said.

About a year ago, Vazquez said they wanted to replace their old shed in the backyard because it was falling apart.

"The first place we went to, which we shouldn't have, just took that first offer because it sounded so good,” Vazquez said. "Warranty, all this stuff."

Making them that offer was Portable Buildings OKC. She said a rent to own plan was drawn up and she paid about $350 for a deposit last June so they would start building it.

"They kept pushing it further and further back,” she said.

After a while she and her mom went to meet with the owner and claimed he told them the front office made a mistake. They had to pay in full and then they would start building it five to six weeks from that point. Receipts show five payments, the last one coming last November, and in all totaling just over $4,200, the shed still wasn’t built as of June 19.

"A lot of the excuse was like the weather, it's raining,” Vazquez said.

More recently, she said they haven’t been getting any answers as to when it would be built. She and her mom would call and even go visit their office off South Shields Boulevard, but said the can kept getting kicked down the road. We went to the business off S. Shields Boulevard to see what was going on, but it appeared like the office lights were off and a sign was on the door saying they would be closed for vacation from June 16 to June 23. We even called, but also to no avail.

That was until Friday when Krystal heard from the business owner who said they would be out to do the work Monday, June 24.

"I just want to know why it took six or seven months,” KFOR said over the phone with the company.

KFOR got a hold of the company that Monday morning.

"There was a lot of communications back and forth that was not there. That's not 100% transparent,” the person said over the phone.

"Well, then give me then give me all the communication. Let me know,” we said.

"I'm not going to do this anymore,” the person answered.

He eventually claimed back logging and weather issues were to blame. This may not be a first for this company either. In 2021, our In Your Corner team ran a similar story about two people waiting months for sheds to be built. At the time, the company was known as S&L Creations, however, they had the same location, phone number and listed owner as what is now Portable Buildings OKC.

Good news though, Monday morning we went to Vazquez’s home and workers appeared to be on site and starting the work on the shed.

We will be sure and follow up with Vazquez to make sure the shed is finished.
