Kansas attorney general halts Biden student loan plan
TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Kansas Attorney General's Office said it is claiming victory in a nationwide preliminary injunction putting a stop to a student loan plan put forth by President Joe Biden.
Danedri Herbert with the AG's Office announced in a press release on June 24 this injunction prevents the Biden Administration from cancelling student loans under its latest regulation. This was set to take effect on July 1.
“Kansas’s victory today is a victory for the entire country," Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach said in a written statement. "As the court correctly held, whether to forgive billions of dollars of student debt is a major question that only Congress can answer. Biden’s administration is attempting to usurp Congress’s authority. This is not only unconstitutional, it’s unfair. Blue collar Kansas workers who didn’t go to college shouldn’t have to pay off the student loans of New Yorkers with gender studies degrees.”
The injunction was signed off by U.S. District Judge Daniel Crabtree in Kansas City. It will become active at 10 p.m. on June 30. You can read the full memorandum online by clicking here or reading through it below:
