2024 Emmy Experts predict Best Drama Supporting Actress: Elizabeth Debicki (‘The Crown’) enjoys massive lead

Having trouble predicting who will win Best Drama Supporting Actress at the upcoming Emmy Awards? Let’s consult Gold Derby’s 2024 Emmy Experts! These savvy pundits from major media outlets have chimed in with their predictions, and the majority of them believe the trophy will go to Elizabeth Debicki (“The Crown”). The other potential nominees, per the Experts’ current racetrack odds, are Moeka Hoshi (“Shōgun”), Holland Taylor (“The Morning Show”), Adelaide Clemens (“Justified: City Primeval”), Lesley Manville (“The Crown”) and Christine Baranski (“The Gilded Age”).

As of this writing, a leading 14 out of our 17 Emmy Experts predict a victory for Debicki: Christopher Rosen (Gold Derby), Clayton Davis (Variety), Dave Nemetz (TV Line), Eric Deggans (NPR), Jazz Tangcay (Variety), Joyce Eng (Gold Derby), Keith Simanton (IMDb), Kelly Lawler (USA Today), Matt Roush (TV Guide Magazine), Peter Travers (ABC), Ray Richmond (Gold Derby), Susan King (Gold Derby), Thelma Adams (Gold Derby) and Wilson Morales (BlackFilmandTV).

Part one of the final season of “The Crown” depicts the tragic last days of Princess Diana‘s life, as portrayed by Debicki. Already this year, the Australian actress has taken home trophies at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice and SAG Awards, so it only makes sense that Emmy voters would want to fall in line next.

As for the other three Emmyologists, Shawn Edwards (WDAF-TV Fox) picks Hoshi, Susan Wloszczyna (Gold Derby) goes with Taylor, and Ben Travers (Indiewire) forecasts Clemens. On “Shōgun,” Hoshi plays Usami Fuji, the granddaughter of Hiromatsu (Tokuma Nishioka) and the consort of Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis). On “The Morning Show,” Taylor (who’s a prior Emmy winner for “The Practice”) takes on the role of UBA board member Cybil Reynolds. And on “Justified: City Primeval,” Clemens portrays Sandy Stanton, the partner of criminal Clement Mansell (Boyd Holbrook).

Also looking strong in our Experts’ rankings is Manville for Season 6 of “The Crown.” She is the final actress to portray Princess Margaret on the Netflix regal drama, with the episode titled “Ritz” focusing on the series of strokes that led to her death. And then there’s Baranski, who is looking for an Emmy bookend for “The Gilded Age” Season 2 as Agnes van Rhijn after previously prevailing on the comedy side for “Cybill.”

Some of the most recent Emmy winners in the Best Drama Supporting Actress category include Jennifer Coolidge (“The White Lotus”) in 2023, Julia Garner (“Ozark”) in 2022, ’20 and ’19, Gillian Anderson (“The Crown”) in 2021, Thandiwe Newton (“Westworld”) in 2018, and Ann Dowd (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) in 2017. Find out who will be in the running to join this esteemed list when the Primetime Emmy nominations are announced on July 17, 2024.
