SHOPPERS are racing to Home Bargains for a £3.99 bargain buy that promises they can get a good night’s sleep – even in the heat.

Sue took to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook to share her purchase, the Cool Down Cooling Mat, which she was hoping would help her night-time snooze.

“Bought today from Home Bargains £3.99,” she wrote alongside a picture of the product.

“Gonna try it tonight.”

The mat is full of “specially designed cooling gel”, and is designed to “relieve pain and discomfort from injuries or heat”.

“I bought the chillmax ones from b&m and they are amazing,” one person commented on Sue’s post.

“Guessing it’s the same thing.

“They do get warm after a while but last long enough to get comfortable.”

“I use the dog cooling mats from B&M on my bed, a large one for the mattress and a smaller one for my pillow,” another added.

“I keep them in the fridge during the day and just before I go to bed I get them out.”

“Put it in the fridge lasts longer,” a third suggested.

“I’ve got one had it a couple of years – I put it in the fridge,” someone else commented.

“I bought one for my dog who won’t touch it… I love it,” another wrote.

“I use one of these, I put it at the end if my bed for my feet then if feels warm before i go sleep then move feet and find a cold spot,” someone else wrote.

“Help keeps my whole body cool by having cold feet.

“During hotter times I put in fridge during day and take to bed when I go.”

“I bought a cooling mat 2 years ago from there and I am still using it,” another added.

How to keep cool in a heatwave

Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it's too hot, there are health risks. Here are three ways to keep cool according to the NHS...

Keep out of the heat if you can.

If you have to go outside, stay in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter.

Cool yourself down.

Have cold food and drinks, avoid alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks, and have a cool shower or put cool water on your skin or clothes.

Keep your living space cool.

Close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has gone down. Electric fans can help if the temperature is below 35 degrees. Check the temperature of rooms, especially where people at higher risk live and sleep.

And using a cooling mattress topper can be extremely effective, Sam Greig, Senior Designer at Swoon, the UK’s leading online design-led furniture brand, said.

“Your duvet and mattress have a massive impact on your temperature whilst sleeping,” Sam said.

“Changing your mattress is a long and awkward process, so instead of storing seasonal sleeping equipment, you can actually select a mattress topper that is adequate for the weather.

“A cooling gel topper is a great option for a full night’s rest – no matter what mother nature decides to throw at you.”
