Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has said that Santiago Gimenez is not a target for Tottenham this summer while Spurs have also played down suggestions about a potential move for Ivan Toney.

Spurs are not looking at Santiago Gimenez this summer

Toney and Gimenez have been the two strikers who have been most heavily linked with a move to Tottenham over the last few months.

In fact, just a few days ago, GiveMeSport suggested that the Feyenoord star remains at the top of Ange Postecoglou’s wishlist at the moment.

The report also claimed that Spurs are quite keen on Toney but are only willing to pay £45m for the England international while Brentford are demanding closer to £60m.

Spurs are playing down Ivan Toney interest

Gold has now said that while Spurs have compiled a shortlist of strikers for the present and long term, Gimenez is not on that list.

He explains that while the Mexican was spotted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium towards the end of last season, he was a guest of an agent rather than invited by the club.

Gold also states that Tottenham have been quick to distance themselves from reports of a move for Toney at this stage of the transfer window.

Finally, the journalist adds that Bolonga’s Joshua Zirkzee is also not being considered by the Lilywhites at this point.

With Richarlison now looking set to stay, it might be that a number nine is not as big a priority for Tottenham this summer as some outlets suggest.

Postecoglou might prefer signing a relatively low-cost centre-forward like Jonathan David and instead spend big on a top-class wide-forward.
