Summer heat hits stride Tuesday around the Pacific Northwest

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Summer heat is expected to peak this week by Tuesday afternoon with highs near 90 degrees along the Willamette Valley.

This latest spike in summer heat is expected to fall by nearly 10 to 15 degrees from Tuesday to Wednesday. Oregon and Washington's latest cooling trend will last through the end of the week. Temperatures will return to below average conditions as clouds increase and the chance of rain returns.

Rain accumulation is expected to amount to a couple-hundredths of an inch to a tenth-inch at most. A few light rain showers will keep mostly cloudy skies over the Portland area Wednesday. A better chance of rain arrives Thursday where the most accumulation is expected.
