Suspected Times Square machete slasher indicted on assault charge: DA

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A man accused of attacking someone with a machete in Times Square in May was indicted on assault and weapons charges, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced Monday.

Ove Williams, 36, of Brooklyn, is accused of slashing a 32-year-old who was walking through Midtown around 1 p.m. on May 30 near West 45th Street and Seventh Avenue, leaving the man with “extensive injuries,” Bragg said.

Williams allegedly struck the man multiple times in the lower body and ran, prosecutors said. The 32-year-old had deep cuts on both legs, severed arteries, nerves and muscles, and lost part of his pinkie finger, prosecutors said.

“Pedestrians should feel safe when walking through the streets of New York, and my Office holds those accountable who harm others,” Bragg said in a statement. “I hope the victim continues to recover from these extensive injuries.”
