Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry to sign health care bills into law
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) - Gov. Jeff Landry is making Louisiana Department of Health leadership announcements and signing health care bills Tuesday morning.
He first spoke about a bill that creates a position of surgeon general in the state.
Landry said that "having a physician in charge and working alongside of a secretary of the LDH who is kind of like a CEO gives us I think, strengthens our health care system and it's something that we need to do."
HB 853 was authored by Representative Brach Myers.
Landry announced that Ralph Abraham will be the surgeon general and Michael Harrington will be the new LDH Secretary. He also said that Drew Maranto will be the Undersecretary of LDH.
Landry has signed multiple bills into law since he took office in January.
Last week he signed the LA Gator Scholarship Program into law. Parents can now use tax dollars to pay for and send their kids to a school of their choice. He also signed a new law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public school classrooms.
