Double Diamonds: DFC Women celebrate a season to remember!

A cup double, just four losses in total, second-place finish in the league – it’s fair to say DFC Women’s team have had a season that will live long in the memory.

The Dartford FC Women and Girls Presentation night was a chance to celebrate their impressive achievements. And they did so in style, with an electric atmosphere, heartfelt speeches and, of course, some well-deserved awards, a fitting end to the 23/24 season.

For manager Martin McCarthy, it’s been a brilliant journey, but one that is only just beginning for this united group.

He said: “They won two cups. They finished second. They only lost four games in the whole season and drew one, with 29 wins, doubling the number of wins from the previous year. They got to the FA Cup game against a team that was three leagues higher in Oxford United.

“It’s a fantastic achievement. Their mentality is unbelievable. They’re just winners. They don’t know when they’re beaten.

“But everything’s always about progression in football. We finished second by just three points, which was a bit of a killer, but for us it’s an opportunity to now go on and have an even more unbelievable season, which we thoroughly believe that we will.”

The awards were as follows:

Emily Vaughn – Players’ Player

Emily scored 27 goals over the season, not only finishing top scorer in the league, but also in the league above!

Martin said: “She has been exceptional. She was playing local park football up until four years ago and moved into our first team. She’s always been a great scorer, but this year she has moved up a gear and even finished the season as captain because she is such a leader.

“The girls voted for her because 27 goals in one season is an astonishing achievement.”

Chana Hinds – Manager’s Player

The defender joined Darts last season and made a big impression, quickly.

Martin said: “In her last team she was seen as just a really fast player, but she’s a star and we knew she could be a big player for us. She’s super-fast, really athletic and a winner.”

Jade Charlton – Supporters’ Player of the Year

The keeper rose to the challenge and had an outstanding season between the posts.

Martin said: “We bought in two keepers to challenge Jade and work beside her. Rather than mentally give up, she rose to the challenge, put the work in and was fantastic for us. When she did make a mistake, which was very rarely, she bounced back so quickly from it, which showed that mentally she’s in a really good place.”

Keep an eye out for much more content from Martin and the Women’s team moving forward!
