Jeremy Renner Reveals Scars From Near-Fatal Accident

He opened up in a new interview.

Jeremy Renner has been through quite a lot in the past two years. In January 2023, the Avengers: Endgame star suffered 38 broken bones and nearly lost his life in a snowplow accident. Looking back on what happened, Renner is lucky to be alive.

The Arrival actor opened up about the experience—and showed the scars he got as a result of surgery—in a new interview with Men's Health. His road to recovery has been long and filled with twists and turns, but Renner knew as soon as he regained consciousness that he needed to put in the work to improve his condition.

"I have to get better than I was today. That’s all that f--king matters. I’m not setting a high bar here," Renner said of his thought process. Now, he's fully back to working out and lifting weights in his free time.

"I never really had scars before. they were probably more emotional, spiritual scars, you know?" Renner said in an accompanying video for Men's Health. "And now there are some physical ones. But the physical ones aren't even from the accident, they're just because of the accident. They're all the surgery scars."

When looking back on his brush with death, Renner quipped in his interview that we're better off not being alive. Still, he's trying to get the most out of life every day that he's on Earth.

"Let this body die. Trust me: It was way better being out of it. Being dead," he said. "But I’m glad I’m here, and I’m going to keep feeding what you take with you: those shared experiences with those you love. It’s eternal, and you take it with you. It’s connected. There’s no time, place, or space. It’s magnificent."

"It’s the mind’s eye. Not your vision. You don’t need vision—you’re dead. Vision is part of the stupid body thing. But the mind’s eye you take with you. You see in your mind—that’s being dead. That’s what it’s like being dead. What you can visualize with your eyes closed. It’s awesome. It’s awesome!" he added. "It’s what your imagination is. It was joy. It was exhilarating peace. Exhilarating peace. You’re connected to everything all at once."

Renner's next movie Wake Up Dead Man hits theaters in 2025.
