Oklahoma City woman arrested for alleged animal cruelty

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Authorities say a woman has been arrested for allegedly spraying a dog with bleach and leaving it outside for days.

According to police, an officer responded to a home near NW 81st St. on Sunday, June 23, regarding a dog that had gotten loose.

Upon arrival, the officer learned that the woman trying to get a hold of the dog, Cynthia Martin, had been watching the dog for a friend for three days.

Martin also had a spray bottle in her hand and every time the dog would get close to her or the officer, she would spray it.

According to a report, the responding officer could smell bleach coming from the bottle and when asked, Martin confirmed there was bleach in the spray bottle. She also told the officer she hadn't fed the dog or let it inside for the three days she had been watching it.

Officials say while waiting for animal welfare to arrive, Martin left the scene. Another officer watched over the dog and once an animal welfare officer arrived, they noticed the dog had serious injuries and was struggling to see and breath.

The report said that Martin drove back by the officer which led to a traffic stop. She was taken into custody and cited for Animal Cruelty.

Martin was later booked into the Oklahoma County Jail.
