Gunfire on Richmond Parkway kills one, injures another

The gunfire rang out about 11:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of the Richmond Parkway, police said.

RICHMOND — A shooting Sunday night on the Richmond Parkway killed one person and critically injured another, police said.

The gunfire rang out about 11:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of Richmond Parkway, where the Bella Vista at Hilltop apartments are located, according to a statement from Richmond police. Two people were down when officers arrived, police said.

One of them died at the scene. The other remained in stable but critical condition at a hospital trauma center Tuesday morning, police said. Authorities did not identify the dead person immediately.

The homicide is the fourth one that Richmond police have investigated in a week. Three people were killed last week and two others injured in shootings about eight hours apart. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office has not released their identity despite repeated requests.

Overall, Richmond police have investigated seven homicides in 2024. They investigated eight in 2023, the fewest since officials began keeping track in 1971.

According to city spokesperson Lynnelle Sanchez, investigators do not believe the fatal shooting on Monday was tied to the three that occurred hours apart on June 18 and 19.

Police did not identify any suspects and they have not announced arrests in either of the four recent shooting deaths. They are seeking tips and asked anyone with information to leave them anonymously at 510-307-8177. Those wanting to share information also can call 510-620-6616.
